How to care for your jewelry
Sterling silver pieces
Silver pieces with the use of creams, exposure to the sun, sweat or perfumes tend to darken, but don't worry, this does not mean that the silver is not of quality, but that it is something normal in the properties of this noble metal . Silver does not oxidize, it does not react to oxygen but to sulfur.
That is why it is very important to know how to maintain your jewelry so that it lasts as long as possible.
-
Do not keep all your jewelry together, much less leave them hanging outside, always separated from each other in a dark, dry and well-closed place.
-
Silver, unlike costume jewellery, loves when you wear it, but you have to be careful with certain products such as creams, perfumes, makeup, chlorine... always clean with soap and water before putting them back or with a soft cloth.
-
Of course, be very careful with cleaning products, such as bleach and ammonia.
-
Keep in mind that if you like to wear your favorite pendant while doing sports, the Ph of your skin and sweat is an important factor for silver to darken.
If the dark color of the silver is not removed because you left it forgotten for weeks on your dresser table and you were late for the maintenance of your jewel, you can use the following:
-
Chamois / silver cleaning cloth
-
Baking soda and water (soft bristle brush)
-
Jewelry workshop (where the pendant will be professionally cleaned) and it will cost you around €5/9
18kt gold plated pieces
Unlike silver pieces, gold-plated jewelry requires a little more care since they are more delicate, and as its name indicates, since it is a bath, it has an x time of life. Some recommendations for your bathroom to last as long as possible:
- Do not wear the bathed pieces to bathe at the beach or in the pool. It is also not recommended to use creams, perfumes or anything corrosive near them.
- Nor the use of water and soaps.
- Do not store pieces bathed with other metals, they risk scratching the bath. Store them covered, in a dark place and away from moisture.
If your jewel has lost its bath due to normal daily use of the piece, there is the option of re-bathing the piece. You can go to any jewelry store and ask for the price or you can contact me again and the piece will be plated again for a price of €10 for my clients.
And finally, take special care with the pieces that have natural stones, since excessive heat, certain products or contact with other materials can scratch and break the stone or even change the color.
I know that it seems a bit cumbersome, but I assure you that it is easier than it seems and if you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me at Irenbznunijewelry@gmail.com and I will answer you as soon as possible. I hope I have solved some doubts for you.
